They are actually really easy to make with the use a free graphic tool called Picasa. Picasa has lots of amazing features that allow you to add text, retouch, crop, recolor and manipulate pictures in a 100 different ways, if you have not used it go download and play with it now.
But this post is about creating banner pictures. So how do you do it?
Step 1 Fire up Picasa
Step 2 Select all the pictures you want to use in your collage and press the collage button
Step 3 Set the dimensions of your collage to be what you need.
Step 4 Select the style of collage you want there are 2 styles in this post, but there are more.
Step 5 fiddle around with your images and backgrounds until you come up with something you like.
Step 6 Press the create collage button and wallah you have yourself an amazing collage pic.
Go impress your buddies.
The dimensions of a facebook timeline picture are - 851px by 351px
The dimensions for google plus are - 940px by 180px
You only need to enter these dimensions once Picasa will remember ... I <3 Picasa
